MELLAH PASEO

We were switched on to South London’s Mellah last year when he released his brilliant debut EP Liminality, and standout track 'Greeney Blue'. Mellah’s songwriting capabilities and distinctive vocal style were immediately noticeable, but that being said, his new single ‘Paseo’ has managed to blow our already high expectations out the water. Replacing those washy dream-pop inspired guitar sounds from his earlier works with heavy fuzz, squelchy synthesizers and tight percussion, ‘Paseo’ sounds absolutely massive. Lyrically sinister and bordering on uncomfortable at points, Mellah’s taunting vocals steal the show on this one. The accompanying video is equally unnerving, shot in the sleepy town of Wisbech and directed himself, it’s a terrifying David Lynch-esque depiction of a family meal with a dark secret. Mellah’s new EP Middle England will arrive via Columbia on the 1st of June. -Holly Mullineaux
